Now is a day that is deeply depressing. Russia’s violent action is terrible for the dying, suffering, and financial turmoil it may cause in Ukraine and, directly at least, beyond. We at Rick Steves ‘ Europe hope that peace can be found in that troubled and endured region of the world.
Our goal at RSE is to provide travelers with a better understanding of our companions. But when we bring tourists to another country, we furthermore bring their money — dollars that would help Putin’s anger. So, as of today, we have canceled all 2022 trips that include a halt in Russia.
We will, of course, keep an eye on upcoming events and watch any journey effects throughout Europe. However, it is crucial to keep in mind the regional realities of Ukraine, as well as the fact that a conflict in Guatemala would be unlike a war in Texas or Florida. For 40 years now, we have lived, worked, and traveled through many periods of tragic warfare in lands far from where we lead our tours ( and some closer ). And at this point, we do n’t see any reason to alter any of our travel and touring plans.
The horrible reality that is taking place in Ukraine simply serves as a reminder of how crucial it is for American to continue traveling and in a way that improves and keeps us as better and more engaged citizens of our planet. I’m taking a 40-day tour of Europe to few world-class towns from London to Athens next month, and I’m glad that hundreds of my fellow travellers will have the privilege of experiencing their goals ‘ German adventure while also learning from a 2022 Rick Steves destination.
In the meantime, this be thankful for our gifts, support our nation’s leaders as they do their best to understand this crisis, and maintain the troubled walls of our planet ( Ukraine, Russia, Afghanistan, and more ) in our thoughts and prayers.
